CAS in Action

Peace lab

The peacelab project, is a collection of trips to a refugee center that we take once every 4 weeks and are mostly consistent. The aim of these trips are to communicate, share ideas and learn, as we believe that talking is best medicine to any issue and with a humanitarian issue such as this, talking is the most underrated solution.

By talking to each other and sharing ideas we start to create a connection that can’t be severed by politics or media, as Dalai Lama (a monk and the leader of the Tibetan tribe) once said “the best way to resolve any problem in the human world is to sit down and talk”.

However we need an excuse to come together and start talking and we have found that food is the best way to bring people together and force everyone to start talking.

What the average Peace lab visit looks like:

5pm: we take off from school to peacelab

6pm: we start to organize the lights, bonfire and

set up the tables

6:30pm: we start gathering everyone around while

we are almost done with the BBQ

7pm; the food is ready and we start serving food

7pm-8:30pm: we eat and talk

8:30: we take of from peacelab back to school

Overall reflection

The peacelab project throughout these 2 years has developed significantly, we developed our relationship with the people at peacelab and within the group itself. We managed to create self funding trips through our fundraisers and most importantly we were never in deficit. We plan to hand this project’s leadership to the grade 11’s by slowly phasing the leadership to this grade. We will cherish all our great memories of this project and we hope that the grade 11’s can continue and improve this wonderful project
