European Week of Sport and European School Sports Day Report

The week of September 23-27 was a busy one for all Verdala community members as we participated in the European Week of Sport (Fitness Week) and the European Schools Sports Day (Friday, 27th).

The whole week saw members of the community participating in Morning Movement each morning with Mr. Michael and Ms. Galya as well as yoga one morning with Ms. Ksenia. This put us all in a great mood for the day and helped our concentration levels for the rest of the day.

During lunch each day, a variety of sports and activities took place across the whole campus. From dodgeball to yoga and from skipping to soccer, all interests were catered for. We even had an international element with less known sports from other countries being played. These included Gaelic Football, Takraw and cricket.

The Friday was the European Schools Sports Day where Verdala joined thousands of schools across the EU in promoting and enjoying physical activity and exercise.

The day started with Morning Movement which all students, parents and staff participated in. This is a variety of dances to different songs to get us all in the mood for the day! Then Middle School worked in their homerooms and rotated through 4 different activities, doing 20 minutes at each station for a total of 80 minutes. In the late morning, Elementary participated in whole school movement to a variety of fun dances and songs. In the afternoon, High School also worked in their home rooms and houses to participate in movement to music as a warm up and then 4 different stations for 20 minutes each. The stations included running, dance, bootcamp, foursquare and volleyball to name a few. There was also then after school football for High school students which had a great turnout!
