Year 8 Entry Point for ‘Entrepreneurship’

During January the grade 8 students were introduced to the Big Idea of Entrepreneurship. This unit began with a presentation on: What is an Entrepreneur? What skills do you need? This was an excellent opportunity for the students to share their ideas. It was really interesting and a number of the students talked about their parents being entrepreneurs. They also could name a number of people who had inspired them in the media, technology, entertainment and finance sections, from the past and the present.

Finally, they shared their ideas of what they would like to do in the future. I do believe that the Verdala school community has a number of budding entrepreneurs in year 8!

The second part was a visit and presentation from members of Flimkien għal Ambjent Aħjar (FAA), http://faa.org.mt/homepage/.

This is a non-government organisation working to protect Malta and Gozo and maintaining a sustainable quality of life. This fits into the Verdala Sustainability concept and students will continue to study this as a project (more details to follow later in the year… watch this space!). They will be designing and building prototypes to pitch to a panel of judges for the chance to make their idea part of their Year 9 Service action, based around the School Green Initiatives.

The talk was based on the environment and how to improve it around the school.

After a very interesting talk and slide show, students split into groups to work on their ideas. They asked a lot of questions to our visitors and really got engaged with this activity.
