How to fish a Donkey Rig

Imagine its a cool morning and you are looking

to catch a few fish before you head out. You know the

fish are feeding on bait fish so what do you

tie on that is right the DONKEY RIG nothing better.

OK first it is important to know that if you are not catching fish with the Double Rig AKA Donkey Rig you will still be having fun. The Donkey Rig has to be one of the funnest rigs to fish out there.

Here is what you need to know about the Donkey Rig It does two things 1. provides a look of competition among bait fish, bass hate this and when they see this they become aggressive. They like being the aggressor in the water and strike hard. 2. It will bring fish up from the depths of your favorite water for a closer look and if they like they will bite.

Fishing the Donkey Rig is similar to a hard jerkbait. You will be providing a few twitches, and pauses of your rod tip. This technique can be used near the surface or deep depending on the location of the fish you are after. Twitch, twitch, pause, pause and the fish is yours.

It is also important to know that you can fish any type of lures that works in the twitch pause fashion. But I feel that the 2 best types of lures to use with a Donkey Rig are the Fluke Soft Plastic and the Tube style baits. Whatever you tie on you will have fun as well as catch more fish. So don't be shy and tie on a Donkey Rig your next outing.
