Pro's and Con's

Tubing the Salt or Fresh

So for the last 20 plus years I have been float tube fishing, and have tried many different areas in Southern California. I have even had the pleasure of fishing both Freshwater and Saltwater. Both types of fishing offer some great advantages, and some draw back as well. For years I was always found in the Freshwater and never figured I would ever try tubing Saltwater. There was no way on God's green earth you would find me hanging my toes in the saltwater where you might find those toothy man eaters.

Well I would like to give you a breakdown of what I feel are the Pros and Cons of floating tubing both Saltwater and Freshwater in Southern California. So areas we will discuss, Cost to fish, Ease of Access, Traffic on the water, and overall fishing pressure. Fishing in Southern California alone has some great Pro’s and of course the biggest Pro is weather. Of course in both bodies of waters there are Con’s that can make your outing tough or sometimes not worth the effort. I will start buy talking about our biggest hurdles the overall cost to fish in So Cal, and what the difference is in both bodies of water.

Cost of fishing in Southern California yes we will talk about this, and I know some of you are reading this and might be thinking why would you pay to fish. We we have to in So Cal.. It is not all bad and we all understand the cost to fish normally goes back to park and water upkeep and general maintenance. Of course not all bodies of water cost to fish, and it depends on what type of fishing you are doing. For the purpose of this article we will stay on the topic of float tube fishing. So for freshwater tubers here is the first Con, most lake have at least a launch fee, yes that is right we walk up with our tiny inflatable and we have to pay a launch fee to fish. These launch fees can be as low and $5 or as step and $20 to $30. For some this is not as much a Con and just a part of reality, but in reality it is a Con for most. So that lead to the first Pro for the Saltwater tuber. Yep that is right, the fee’s to tube a local Harbor or Bay $0. There might be a meter to feed quarters to for parking. Of course with some preplanning and knowing you launch sites you can pretty much float tube the Saltwater for FREEEEE.
