Teaching the future generation about the ins and outs of fishing.

2 weeks ago I was at work talking with a manager (they all know I am a fishing fool) he was telling me that he wanted to take his grandson who is only 5 out to the lake and teach him the rope's , but he had no idea where to start . That's where I stepped in and offered to meet them both at the lake and show them the ropes.

Well the day arrived and I picked a place I knew I could get this little guy on some fish. I was waiting for them in the parking lot, they finally arrive and the little guy jumps out of the car with grandpa and his new Spiderman fishing pole still in packaging. I quickly got him rigged up and I took them to a nice spot I had picked out, with easy access to the water and with shade within 10 minutes I had the little guy, casting with my help and in no time at all I hear him holler out with Excitement Grandpa, Wes I have a fish, it's a nice 12" Perris bass jumping out the water. The look on his face said it all as he battled the beast and caught his first fish ever. Over the next 2 hours he enjoyed fishing and told me he was big enough to cast and catch his own fish and he did. I only had to unhook them and let them go as he made it clear he was not going to touch the fish.

Anyhow To cut the story short later that afternoon I got a phone call from my manager and to my surprise it was the grandson thanking me for showing him how to catch fish! Just a few days ago my manager told me his grandson is hooked and asks all the time to go again.

Just goes to show you that we need to share this knowledge and help create future generations of fisherman and women ... these memories will stay with them forever.
