The Caroline Rig also known as the C-Rig is a versatile yet simple rigging that if you have not tried yet, maybe it’s time. The C-Rig has been around for a long time in the fishermen’s arsenal and after reading up on it, I feel it is something we should be using if you have not done so alread y. Like any fishing set- up there are limitations and this set- up does have them. So, let's understand thom before we continue. First it cannot be affectively used in heavy weeds or rock piles that have a lot of rocks in close proximity to each other. These environments make it hard not to get snagged up when fishing in them. With this out of the way, we can now discuss where you can use this rig effectively. That would be anyplace that does not have these types of structures, And you know your waters. So, start thinking where this can work for you.

Now we should talk about the actual set-up of the Caroline Rig. The set-up is simple. You will need a bullet weights; bead, double ring swivel, and hook. The bullet weight leeds the bait through the water and the bead is used to protect the line knot from the weight as it moves back and forth on the line. The other use for the bead is to make some noise and attract the fish. For the best results, use glass beads. The double ring swivel is not used for preventing line twist. It is used as a stopper for the weight to the leader line. The leader is a long line from the swivel to the hook and plastic bait. Length here is something I feel you should experiment with to see if you can determine what works best for your situation. It is stated that a standard length would be about 18 inches long. But again, you should experiment with this idea yourself for best results.

Baits to use: If you are like me your mind is going crazy right now “did someone say baits?” This is candy of the fishermen.! Well, it seems that the original purpose was to set this up with a plastic worm or lizard. That is all well and good. And I am sure they are very effectiv. , But there are so many other types of bait to choose from nowadays. So, get creative! Use crawfish baits, or maybe a trailer jig?. Why not a creature bait? There are so many baits out there that can now be used with the C-Rig other than just the plan old plastic worm. Again this is an area that you should be experimenting with to see what works best for you and the waters you are

fishing in. Finally, I would like to say this, The Caroline Rig is a great and effective bass set-up. But we should not stop there. Why not use it for Trout fishing? This would be great for the mouse, or trout worm. It could be just as effective in saltwater, as well. Hooking up on some Halibut or Saltwater Bass would be just some of the fish we could be using these on for saltwater.

So if you have not tried this yet, maybe you might want to push yourself and give it a shot., You never know. This might just be your next, 'go-to rig!'
