The Finer Points of LASIK Surgical Procedure with Dr Kevin Niksarli
LASIK is the name given to a surgical procedure to improve vision acuity. One of the benefits of LASIK
process is that it does away with the bother of wearing contact lens along with its inherent risks. Well
known Eye Surgeon Dr. Kevin Niksarli describes LASIK Surgery as a surgical procedure which
permanently changes the shape of the Cornea to absolve the user from the bother of wearing Contact
lens or spectacles. However Dr Kevin is quick to add that LASIK procedure is not the panacea for every
vision anomaly. There are still some risks and complications which are associated with LASIK Process.
LASIK is the acronym for Laser-Assisted in Situ Keratomileusis. The process involves permanently
changing the shape of one’s cornea, which is the clear covering of the eye, using an excimer laser. The
process involves cutting a flap on the cornea to expose the underlying Stroma layer. The Stroma layer is
then restructured using a laser before the flap is replaced. Though the process seems simple but
according to Dr Kevin involves razor sharp measurements in the order of microns.
Dr Kevin Niksarli has been a pioneer in LASIK procedures and has done thousands of eye surgery. LASSIK
Surgery is most beneficial in correcting myopic eyes. However the LASIK procedure can also be used to
treat astigmatism (blurred vision due to an irregular shaped cornea) and are hyperopic (farsighted) eyes.
However the risks associated with them are higher.
According to Dr Kevin Niksarli, the ideal patient to receive the LASIK procedure should be –
Eighteen years of age
Has sufficient corneal thickness
Does not suffer from any disease that may hinder their ability to heal correctly
Person is either myopic, hyperopic, and/or has astigmatism.
Following persons must avoid Lasik Surgery
Persons with a history of dry eyes
Persons on steroids or immunosuppressant drugs
Persons with corneal scarring
Persons with glaucoma, cataracts, corneal diseases or any other pre-existing eye diseases
Common complications associated with Lasik surgery include maculopathy, epithelial sloughing, glares,
haloes, and starbursts.
