8. THE EPILOGUE
YOUNG AND VICTORIOUS
“And I write these things, young people, because you are strong, the word of God is treasured in your
hearts and you have defeated the evil one” – 1 John 2:14 TPT
I’ve never really run into this verse till the week I wrote this - on the 18 th of August 2019. When I heard
the verse being read in church, it hit me with power and I was filled with awe. Probably because of some
of the struggles I have faced recently. I was almost tipping into sad land on Sunday but reading this verse
gave me fuel.
Many times, the struggles I face have almost made me give up. I often get depressed not because I don’t
know God loves me or everything else I have written in this book. I often get depressed, but because I get
weary of fighting and when I consider that I will only keep fighting (looking into the future), it makes me
very disheartened. I feel there’s no use of life anyways if I am just going to keep fighting the same things
every day. It almost feels like a merry go round. Running into the words of John gave me strength. I will be
addressing everyone personally as I run through John’s word. I am writing to “YOU”
John didn’t say because you will be strong, he said YOU ARE strong. John is not talking based on your pre-
sent circumstances, he is declaring over you. He is seeing you through God’s eyes and God sees you as
strong period! It’s up to you to act like a strong person or ‘fake it till you become it’.
John goes on to say the word is treasured in your heart. The struggles I face make me question my faith
every day and the ‘solid foundation’ I have. But then that’s only another of the devil’s strategies to get
you to doubt your faith. Is God’s word in your heart? Then don’t fear, it will be there when you need it.
God’s word is like a notebook with passwords (or fighting words), stored in your brain. When you search
for it – you will find it. I have quoted and stated verses in this book and in a few pages, you will see my
song glossary – use them.
John completes his declaration with power – You have defeated the evil one. Halleluiah! You have won
the war. You might be losing this battle but don’t lose heart – keep fighting – you will win the war. It’s like
the Israelites in the battle where Moses’s upheld hand ensured their victory. There were times Moses’s
hands got weak and, in those moments, they were being defeated but they eventually won because Mo-
ses’s hands were up.
