There was a time when the location of the Fields Institute was to be decided . Derek Corneil , Director of Research Initiatives , and Steve Halperin , Chair of Mathematics , joined me for lunch at the Faculty Club as was my daily habit . They were well prepared , having created impressive paper documentation in support of a permanent home for the Institute at the University of Toronto . At the end of lunch , asked how we should move the issue forward , I said that we had to meet the President of the University , Rob Prichard , outside his office .
And as it happened , just as we were departing the Faculty Club , Prichard was strolling by . So I pre-empted the others and just told the president that we would walk with him back to his office .
