Since its inception, CMM has established strong collaborative research links with clinical researchers at Princess Margaret Hospital, the Hospital for Sick Children, Sunnybrook Hospital, and Toronto Western Hospital. In fact, the current co-Director is James Drake, Chief Neurosurgeon at the Hospital for Sick Children, and collaborative efforts with his group (and PMH, Sunnybrook) have resulted in several successful NSERC/CIHR Collaborative Health grants. All these Fields Institute efforts (through a “virtuous cycle”!) have only served to further strengthen research connections and to increase the synergy and interaction between mathematics and the biomedical sciences. The rest, one might say, is history and CMM is well into its second decade, having recently celebrated its tenth anniversary in 2015!
