and be unequivocal in committing the University to being a
first-class host.
One thing we underestimated at the time was how
important Toronto would be as a host city. Its location in the
heart of an ever more attractive and diverse global city has
made the Fields Institute ever more attractive as well. And
one thing we hoped for at the time has also been a great boost:
the University of Toronto’s steady ascent among the world’s
leading research universities has made us an ever better host
for Fields as one of the world’s great centres for mathematics.
Nice.
I remain enormously proud that the Fields Institute is on
the University of Toronto campus and doing so well.
