from the audience arrived and, as the master of ceremonies for
the afternoon, I managed to organize the first few questioners
and saw to it that their questions were answered.
As we approached the end of the proceedings my heart
skipped a beat! Amongst the audience, I recognized the
gentleman who had given such grief at Penrose’s Fields
Lecture! Furthermore he was slowly making his way along
a crowded row towards a microphone! I just had time—in
the manner of radio phone calls—to announce that “the clock
has beaten us, we have run out of time and let us thank the
speaker one more time,” evoking thunderous applause which
drowned out the possibility of another audience “manifesto.”
