the event.
This year they have a fantastic offer
to tempt you to try something a little
different and new: book at least 5
different events and get £1 off each
ticket. Book 10 or more different
events and you will even get £2 off
each ticket.
The festival offers something for every
time of reader, young or old, fi ction,
non-fi ction and also includes poetry.
Leading up to this year’s festival they
have been running a competition
for would-be writers, looking for the
best short story written by an adult.
Meg says “We have been looking for
short stories of up to 1000 words, and
the winning entry will be published
in Suffolk Magazine. 2018 is a very
auspicious year. It is the centenary of
the First World War (2014 to 2018)
and we wanted to commemorate this
event with a focus on remembrance
and the legacy of this confl ict. At the
end of the war, the Representation of
the People Act 1918 gave women over
30 who were householders (about 8.4
million women) the vote for the fi rst
time. So, with 100 years of refl ection,
we are looking for stories that loosely
encompass the theme of `Centenary`. be based on historical fact or entirely
fi ctional.” Entry to the competition
has now closed but the judges were
delighted with both the volume
and quality of entries this year. The
winner and the two runners up will be
announced at the `Short Story Event`
at the Felixstowe Book Festival on
Saturday, 30 June at 4.30pm.
“These two events defi ned the world
that was to follow, and they are not
unrelated. When we think of World
War 1 we think of a lost generation of
young men, of trenches and No Man’s
Land, the horror of relentless fi ghting.
With so many men away, women
took up their roles in the workplace
and found their voice, adding fuel to
the fi re of the Suffragette movement
which achieved its fi rst major success
in 1918.” says judge Ruth Dugdall, “A
story could take inspiration from either
of these momentous events, it could Laura Horne General Manager for
the Orwell Hotel says of this year’s
event “We have been supporting the
festival since it fi rst began so have
been delighted to witness it expand
and become ever more popular. We are
very much looking forward to this its
6th year as the programme is the most
exciting yet!”

The Orwell Hotel in Hamilton Road
hosts the lion’s share of the Felixstowe
Book Festival events and has been a
staunch supporter of the event since it
began. The hotel will also be running
a festival café and book shop over the
fi ve days.
So perhaps you too will pop this fl agship
event into your diary and delve into at
least one or two of the Felixstowe Book
Festival events happening around the
town this month.
Introducing Premier Equity Release
The Equity
Release market
is a fast-growing
market and with
the vast amount
of information
available
everywhere it
can be confusing
to know who to
Tracey Lucas
turn to when you
need honest, unbiased advice. We are
therefore proud and excited to introduce
Premier Equity Release which is the fi rst
Equity Release shop to be opened in the
East of England and possibly the UK. The
origins of this new venture are easy to
understand. Some readers will be familiar
with The Mortgage Centres which have
several offi ces and whose dedicated
advisers have been helping the people
of Suffolk and further afi eld for over 20
years. We have been giving specialist
advice to clients for mortgages in later life
for some time but recently there has been
mounting interest in Equity Release and
so Phil Scott, who is Managing Director
of Needham Mortgage Centre, decided
to set up Premier Equity Release which
offers a dedicated service to clients.
We are pleased to announce that we
have just opened our new offi ces in the
High Street in Needham Market.
What Puts Premier
Above the Rest?
Born out of a need to cut through the
patronising, soft-focus view of older
people’s aspirations, Tracey Lucas who
heads up the team at Premier Equity
Release, wanted to be part of an honest,
professional Equity Release service that
puts customer service fi rst.
Having an ethical approach means we
put the customer fi rst. We are real people
who share your frustrations with long
forms, automated systems and multiple
hoops to jump through. It’s our business
to cut through the paper-pushing and
look after your interests. We want to
make sure you get the best rate, the
right fees and an Equity Release scheme
that best suits your needs, resources and
lifestyle.
Getting Equity Release is a big decision
and our mission is to make everything
as straightforward and user-friendly as
possible. We never use jargon, there is
no hard sales talk and our dedicated
professionals are committed to providing
fi rst-class service to all of their clients.
Whether you are looking to carry out
home improvements, pay off a mortgage,
help the grandchildren or have other
projects, don’t hesitate to contact us.
