If you are concerned about GDPR ( Data Protection legislation coming into force May 2018 ) then call me for some sane advice . There are many “ consultants ” out there advising on GDPR . In the main though , what small businesses need to do is simple .

Slow PC or Laptop ?

Has your PC or laptop slowed down and become just too painful to use ? This often happens as machines get older . A clean-up can sometimes make a difference . However , if you have a desktop / laptop with either Windows XP or Vista , both these versions of Windows are no longer supported . It

is not worthwhile financially to spend money on equipment of that age . In this case a new machine is required to keep you safe online . Call me for details .

New PC / Laptop

New laptops or desktops or all-in-one devices are available and reasonably priced . I can source either a desktop ( some even still come with Windows 7 ) or a laptop . Windows 10 is now mature , speedy and stable . Your documents and favourites can be transferred to the new machine easily . Please call me for details .

Smartphone , tablet or laptop screen damaged ? Doesn ’ t power up ??

If your screen is damaged , cracked or broken , I can now offer a service to replace the screen on your Apple or Android devices , be it a phone or a tablet . Also , if the device does not power up or charge properly , I can often sort out power issues too . Or replacement batteries . Please give me a call .

Training / Tuition

If you would like some help with Windows 10 , or want help with Apple devices or Android tablets , please call me . I can also help with spreadsheets

( Excel or the like ), presentations ( PowerPoint or similar ). Mailing-lists / labels is also something I can do , so be prepared for your Christmas card list . Please call me to discuss .

Printer not working well ? Want to print wirelessly from your smartphone or tablet ?

Printers these days are sold as lossleaders , as the manufacturers make their money from the ink . Also , if you do not use your inkjet regularly the print-heads will need cleaning . If you need a new printer , call me for a chat . These can print / copy / scan in colour and black / white , and generally can do so wirelessly . Some too can print photos from an sd-card directly . Epson have a range of printers , similar in size to inkjets , but which use ink tanks . The printers cost more than normal inkjet printers , however the running costs are significantly lower . If this idea appeals , call me for more information .

Using your PC / laptop for banking / buying online ?

If you do , just having an anti-virus product is definitely not enough . You need a robust internet security product . Whilst some anti-virus

software is free , these security products all have an annual fee . But beware of AVG products . AVG has been around for years and has been good . Recently though it has deteriorated a lot , with scarily worded windows cajoling you into needless upgrades . And I have had several instances where AVG has prevented internet access altogether ! I can advise you on this critical issue , call me .

Finally , BACKUP !

If you do not have a current backup of your cherished photos or documents , then shame on you !! Also , do NOT rely on an old backup device . By old I mean anything older than 3-4 years . It is false economy to continue to use these devices . If you still rely on a 10-yr old backup device , don ’ t !! Get a robust and reliable backup USB stick . I can help with this of course . If you need something more solid , I can supply a system of automated backups which does not cost an arm and a leg . Please call me .
