Six bulls secured bids for over 10,000gns, with 129 selling for an of £4,964 at 80 per
cent clearance, the highest rate of any breed so far this year at Stirling
Breed society secretary Neil Shand
said he was delighted with the trade,
which was dominated by commercial
buyers.
“Those who are staying in cows are
moving towards the Simmental, with
the commerical buyers willing to
chase the pedigree breeders for the
best bull.
“There were a lot of new customers at
the sale today, with more bulls going
home with English bidders than we
have ever seen before.”
Two bulls shared the top price of
12,000gns. First in the money was
the junior and overall champion,
Derrycallaghan Ernest 13, which was
the pick of the pre-sale show’s judge,
Michael Barlow, Leyland.
Consigned by Harold Stubbs
and his grandson, Alan Burleigh,
Ballindarragh, Northern Ireland,
who have previously sold bulls to
9,000gns, it is by the home-bred sire,
Kilbride Farm Newry and out of
Derrycallaghan Beauty 10.
Also in at 12,000gns was Ian Green,
Fochabers who had an excellent trade
with his string of bulls. His highest
was the May-2013 born Corskie
Elgin 13 secured by Gordon Clark,
Fife. Out of Corskie Amaryllis, it is
by the privately purchased Greencap
Ace 09, which has produced sons to
11,000gns.
Next at 10,500gns was Hector
Macaskill, Dunbar with Woodhall
Enfield 13. Out of Woodhall Angela
09, it is by Raceview All-Star KK and
was knocked down to A. and E. Clark,
Ornkey.
Three then sold for 10,000gns, the
first being the pre-sale show’s senior
champion also from Mr Green.
Second at the Royal Highland Show
last year, Corskie Envoy 13 is by the
22,000gns Dirnanean Bradley, which
also had success at the Highland,
taking breed champion and which
has sold nine sons to an average of
9,100gns. The April-born bull, out
of the un-shown Corskie Adorabelle
went home to Aberdeen with I.
Wilson.
Also securing a 10,000gns bid was
the August-2013 born Kilbride Farm
Emperor 13 from Billy Robson,
Ballyclare and his sons Michael and
Norman. By Kilbride Farm Warren
and out of Kilbride Farm Eunice
118C, it was bought by Messrs Wood,
Orkney.
The third 10,000gns was for Alex
and Ross King, Keith with Wolfstar
Elusive 13. Bought by Stewart
Stronach and Partners, Banffshire.
It is a Team Celtic 11 son, out of
Wolfstar Tequila.
Another Northern Irish bull, this
time the reserve junior champion,
then attracted ringside interest, with
Drumlone Engineer 13 from Kenny
Veitch, Lisbellaw, going under the
hammer for 9,500gns. The Omorga
Murray son, out of Brookwood PrettyPolly was knocked down to Jim Innes,
Aberdeen.
Selling for 9,000gns was Owenskerry
Excellent 13, again from Northern
Ireland, this time owned by B.J., L.
and C. Cowan, Fivemiletown. The
pick of L. Forster and Son, Hexham,
the June-2013 bull is a Omorga Volvo
son out of Owenskerry Vicky.
Selling at the same money was G.W.
Smith, Laurencekirk with Drumsleed
Exodus 13. Out of Drumsleed Poppet
and by Grangewood William, it was
secured by W.A. Galloway, Newton
Stewart.
At 8,800gns was Neil McGowan,
Blairgowrie with the reserve senior
champion, Dirnanean Eskimo. The
polled March-2013 born bull, which
was champion at Perth show, is out
of Dirnanean Timone T11 and by the
10,000gns Dirnanean Salvador.
