The Traditional and Native Breeds National Show and Sale is a unique National event held at Melton Mowbray.
Unlike any of the other regional rare breed shows and sales, this is a co-operative venture, run by the participating breed societies who each provide their own stewards, inspectors and judges, and run their individual breed events, using their own rules, under the Melton umbrella. Grassroots Systems Ltd do all the entry and catalogue administration, and ensuring that all the animals are fully registered, and that the pedigree information is correct. They work with the breed secretaries to ensure that all the ownership transfers are done soon after the sale, and they provide a free ‘kinship analysis’ over the weekend to help buyers ensure the males they purchase are not too closely related to the females they have at home.
The event has been a fabulous success, with close to 1000 sheep each year, from 24 different UK Traditional and Native breeds , a good selection of cattle and pigs, and a fantastic poultry and waterfowl sale.
