FARMERS ARE AMONG THE hardest-working people anywhere – that ’ s a fact . Ian Wilkinson recently met two of them who , from their West Yorkshire base , help to work the family farm as well as holding down full-time jobs ; and they still find time to indulge their other interests .

Lorraine Morley and David Osborn do work hard but the couple also love to travel the length and breadth of the UK in their camper van when they get the chance . Their other

passion is for vintage tractors - lovingly restoring , maintaining and driving them , in common with many other farming people throughout the country .

A couple of years ago the couple decided to organise a Boxing Day Tinsel run for charity . The first one was a great success despite it being in the snow . It then became an annual event . The run is about 32 miles route from and back to Holmfirth via many of the small villages , with large crowds always attending to enjoy a great day out . People

really enter into the spirit with many of the tractors bedecked with Tinsel and Santa ’ s .

The event has grown year on year and now attracts up to 50 tractors . One of the original participants , John Edinborough , surprised everyone when he announced he wanted to drive to Whitby !

Ever up for a challenge , Lorraine agreed to help organise the mammoth event which involved planning the route , refreshment and toilet stops every hour , making sure

there were enough fuel stops and sorting accommodation from camping to B & B ’ s . With as large a group as this going all that way , they definitely needed mechanical support which was kindly provided by farming engineering stalwart , Mick Green .

As with all things Lorraine sets her mind to , it was a great success and they raised an amazing £ 7000 for the RNLI and Air Ambulance . Naturally everybody said - “ Let ’ s do it again !”
