The Battyes of Firs Farm, Ringinglow on the western edge of Sheffield have been supplying the wonderfully named Mr Pickles’ Yorkshire Food Emporium run by Paul Widowson on Abbeydale Road in the city for the past two years since it opened and it appears to be a perfect fit. ‘We’re keeping him well stocked with lamb all the time,’ says Angela Battye who farms with husband Jim and son John. ‘And Mr Pickles is also taking all our finished beef. We’re supplying Paul with two beasts every three weeks. It’s a great concept. The emporium is all about local Yorkshire produce and we’re delighted to be involved. Anything that means less food miles is a further guarantee of fresh produce. It’s good for us both and we receive promotion from him too.’ Angela, Jim and John farm across 230 acres of which 130 are owned and 100 tenanted mainly from Sheffield City Council. Their
