Nether Haugh Farm Warttig’s Eastfield Turkeys All our turkeys are fed naturally on grain with only herbal additives to their feed. We pride ourselves in the fact that we have used these methods for a great number of years, with Richard Warttig being one of the first to to promote this kind of turkey farming. Proud to be associated with Nether Haugh Farm FRESH CHRISTMAS TURKEY AND CHICKEN DIRECT TO YOU FROM THE FARM Amanda: 07805 207247 Mark: 07887 730417 Email: [email protected] Nick and Carys currently have a herd of Angus crosses with both sucklers and followers. The target is to get up to 50 and to increase the meat sales from the door and at farmers markets as Nick really likes dealing with customers. They retain the heifers and tend to sell the steers. Their cattle are extensively reared and never forced or pushed using more modern feeding techniques. Carys used to name all the cattle especially the ones that were staying - many is the time when she has done bottle rearing. The cattle will be treated to a new feed area in the autumn. Customer service is never more evident at Christmas as the couple buy in 120 six to eight- week old turkey chicks in September/ October. They are slow grown and fed using wheat grown on the farm to produce the finest tasting Christmas turkey money can buy. Nick does all the killing and plucking and Carys the dressing and despatching. This is by no means a new venture. Turkeys have been sold at Nether Haugh since the 1930s. Nick was telling me that a customer came in 2014 and announced that it was her 59th year! A relative new venture which is really to complement their impressive farm door sales is the addition of their own dog food range. Nick and Carys are very committed to the environment being part of the ELS and HLS Birkfield Farm Bird Lane, Oxspring, South Yorkshire, S36 8YD Stewardship. This has led to the creation of wildflower meadows and the final string to their bow – honey. Their bees produce superb honey - during summer it’s not uncommon for them to sell 60 jars a day. Many people buy the honey as it greatly helps asthma sufferers. Finally, they have a lot of environmentally friendly managed hedgerows throughout the farm which have in turn created perfect habitats for farmland birds. Although this has been all about Nick and Carys they are extremely grateful for having the help of George Lewis who has worked on the farm since 1967 and can turn his hand to just about anything – he has been a massive help. As we stood outside the farmhouse you could see their many chalk boards highlighting all the various produce for sale, you could hear in the background the barking of their pet Ridgeback dogs who are much tamer than they seem. Ridgebacks have been in the family since the 1950s. Nick and Cary
