» » JANUARY IS ALWAYS AN
important time in the farming
calendar for the world of
machinery. Farmers are starting
to think about the year ahead,
reflecting on the previous year
and what they need, or would
like to invest in.
Andrew Waddington and his
team at the Farmstar group in
South Yorkshire always have
their annual open day in January
which is their opportunity
to thank their many loyal
customers and welcome new
ones amid an air of conviviality -
and a burgeoning yard of some
of the finest farm machinery on
offer.
Farmstar always make it a
good day by pushing the boat
out supplying a handsome
array of food and refreshment
and plenty of it as - let’s face
it, farmers are not known
for “nibbling”. This is always
housed in a very neat and tidy
finely scrubbed up workshop
area complete with heaters
as invariably, to coin an old
Yorkshire phrase it’s usually
“brass monkeys “outside!
There is always an extra
marquee attached to the main
building which houses the
products and managers of many
of Farmstar’s tried and tested
suppliers, often providing a
welcome refuge from the cold,
wind and sometimes snow
outside. This year though, the
weather was kind for a change
which allowed a much better
flow of farmers between all the
stands inside and out rather than
the marquee becoming more
reminiscent of a fat stock sale.
Talking to Andrew afterwards
he told me he was very pleased
with the day having had a lot
more deals on the day and firm
leads to follow up on. Speaking
to a number of farmers and
exhibitors I found attitudes much
more positive. Andrew as ever
was very evident the whole day
engaging with customers and his
suppliers alike.
