JANUARY 11TH AND 12TH were very important dates in the Yorkshire agricultural calendar being the annual two day open event staged by Ripon Farm Services . The Harrogate Showground ( home of the Great Yorkshire Show ) as usual was the venue ; however , this year the entire event rather than being split between two buildings connected by a wet and windy walk , was housed in the all-new £ 10m Exhibition hall . It meant all the machinery and stands were completely under cover in one warm building which was a real bonus for the usual wet and windy January .
Geoff Brown and his team really pulled out the stops for their open days which are really more of a show . All the manufacturers were well supported by both brand managers and the smart RFS staff , enabling farmers to engage in discussion for those important New Year deals . Speaking to Geoff he finds staging a New Year open day is really effective particularly as it is prior to LAMMA .
“ Farmers usually have their single farm payments and are ready to buy if that price is right ”, he says . This would certainly seem true as an example - 13 Bailey Trailers were sold across the two days ! Across the stands there was a lot of interest and genuine enquiries .
Customers of Ripon Farm Services can feel comfortable in the knowledge that Geoff ’ s ‘ make it happen ’ attitude is the reason why the company has the reputation of being at the forefront of excellence in customer service . As well as the many knowledgeable professionals on the sales side they have no fewer than 38 fully qualified service engineers and technicians who are recognised in the industry with LTA-based accreditation that is a measure of their technical capabilities . They are continually taking on new , enthusiastic apprentices who are just starting out on their careers , for they are the long term future . All this means they are able to keep customers machinery in tip top condition which in turn helps their profitability and performance .
If you are holding an event such as this and hopefully attracting many customers old and new , one thing for sure is that farmers need feeding !
Suffice to say the catering was wholesome , tasty and plentiful with soup , chips , hot roast beef sandwiches and all manner of refreshments . By 1pm on day one a staggering 2000 Bread cakes had been consumed ! People from all over come to the Ripon Farm Days , and Geoff had congratulatory emails from as far away as Poland .
In true tradition Geoff did his level best to speak to as many people as possible , and let ’ s face it there aren ’ t many people he doesn ’ t know .
All in all the Open days were a very successful start to the Ripon Farm year – Geoff and his team would like to thank everyone for attending and all look forward to seeing customers old and new again at their next major event , The Great Yorkshire Show in July .
