the hedging and woodland for shelter , and it may just be a coincidence , but we have noticed an increase in English Grey Partridge numbers at both Longlands and Lark Hall . The hedges are producing wild berries and the mountain ash and wild cherry trees are providing an abundance of little berries to attract and feed farmland birds .’
The most recent development in conservation and wildlife was the introduction of 16 beehives on the farm at Longlands . ‘ A local man , Andrew Dinsdale , contacted us in spring this year and we positioned the hives within the newly planted trees next to the 70-acre field of oilseed rape . Perhaps they played a significant role in our respectable yield this year , but it just shows pollinators can be so valuable not just for growing food but also to the farmers pocket .’
