FUTURE PROOFING A FAMILY BUSINESS

Lloyd Ltd is a long-standing family business , founded by Ralph Lloyd as a tractor dealership in Carlisle in 1964 . Over the following decades the company has grown considerably , covering the north of England and south of Scotland , with its head office still in Carlisle and further branches in Alnwick , Bishop Auckland , Dumfries , Kelso , Newcastle and Penrith . The group is still very much a family-run business , with Barry Lloyd as the Managing Director and his elder son George a Director of the company as well as Dealer Principal of the Newcastle branch .
Ralph Lloyd
IT was Barry ’ s father Ralph who founded the business all those decades ago and he always took opportunities to develop and grow the company both in terms of locations and the product range . This approach has continued on Barry ’ s watch and is clearly the way the Lloyd family like to do business – and there is no doubt it works ! Despite the size of the group , it does , as I ’ ve said , remain very much a family-run business that takes pride in its customer service and its staff development , and thereby lie the roots of its success .
No business in this day and age can afford to stand still and must always look to the future and continued
Ralph Lloyd development . The current shining beacon of Lloyd Ltd ’ s investment programme is the Bishop Auckland branch which has just completed the build of their amazing new stateof-the-art premises adjacent to the old depot . This is the latest milestone in the history of Lloyd Ltd ’ s presence in Bishop Auckland which began twenty years ago when the company took over a dealer in Barnard Castle in order to take on the New Holland franchise , subsequently then relocating premises to Bishop Auckland .
This impressive project at Bishop Auckland is one of several taking place , with the Penrith branch likewise moving into purpose-built , state-ofthe-art premises in 2019 , having outgrown their former site over the past forty years . Newcastle too is currently undergoing a substantial extension to their showroom and workshop facilities , and the Carlisle head office has also had its building extended to accommodate a larger lawncare workshop and reception , as well as a training room and an indoor feed barn for their equestrian shop .

‘ No business in this day and age can

afford to stand still and must always look to the future ’

Making these significant investments in their local communities shows that Lloyd Ltd is looking forward to continued success and to supporting their customers for many more decades to come .
