Magnificent Prices for Irish Moiled Cattle in the Online Timed Auction
THE Irish Moiled Cattle Society ’ s inaugural Online Magnificent Moilie sale was topped by a breed record price at auction , of £ 3,750 for lot 19 , a spring-born heifer calf , Ballyreagh Lily 6730 consigned by N & M Moilies ( Nigel Edwards & Michelle McCauley ), owned by William Edwards of Tempo , Co . Fermanagh . The purchaser of this elite calf , a new comer to the breed , Robin Dunlop from Ayrshire , Scotland set his sights on purchasing the eye catching Ballyreagh Lily cow and heifer calf outfit and also purchased the mother of lot 19 , a quality 3 year old , 2nd calver cow , Ballyreagh Lily 6691 at £ 2,950 , the third highest price of the sale bringing about a resounding combined total price of £ 6,700 for the impressive Ballyreagh Lily cow and heifer calf outfit .
The second highest price of the day was £ 3,200 for another superb spring born heifer calf , Beechmount Scarlett owned by Robert Boyle of Millisle , Co . Down which was purchased by newly involved in the breed , Eammon Mc Cann of Newry , Co . Down .
Continuing a trend , the demand for heifer calves was evident when Ballynahinch breeder Sam Smiley sold two of his powerful homebred Glassdrummond Cherry spring born heifer calves for £ 2,750 and £ 2,650 both of these going to Dermot Gardiner of Ballymena , Co . Antrim , a newcomer to the breed .

The youngest female entry in the sale was the very stylish May 2020 born heifer calf , Ravelglen Romana owned by Brian O ’ Kane of Martinstown , Co . Antrim which sold for £ 2,600 , purchased by the Killua Castle herd , Navan , Co . Meath . Killua Castle are newly involved with the breed and were the bulk buyers of the Magnificent Moilie sale purchasing the grand total of 10 females throughout the sale .

There was a 100 % clearance of all the 25 female lots , 11 selling for over £ 2,000 . All 25 female lots averaged £ 1,952 . 11 heifer calves averaged £ 2,200 . 6 Intermediate females average £ 1,658.33 . 6 Junior females average £ 1716.66 , 2 Senior females averaged £ 2,175 and 5 bulls averaged £ 1,290 .

The Irish Moiled Cattle Society are presently selling raffle tickets for Beechmount Eve , a beautiful year old , perfectly coloured Irish Moiled heifer from the Beechmount herd of Robert Boyle ’ s . The draw has been rescheduled to take place on Christmas Eve 2020 details of which are on the Irish Moiled Cattle Society website .
