Welcome to the latest issue of
The Farmers Mart, hopefully
as I write rainfall will return
to normal levels or even less
after the latest deluges. Wet
conditions are always a concern when
it comes to harvest and storage, this has been a
particularly frustrating time for many farmers.
IT’S that time of year when many
farmers are starting to think about
buying new machinery. In this issue we
have a preview of the popular Midlands
Machinery Show on the 20th and 21st
November. The show is a great oppor-
tunity for farmers to look at the latest
machinery. After Midlands is LAMMA
in January. LAMMA’s move to the NEC
was a great success being under one
warm roof. This year’s show, 7th and
8th January, promises to be an excel-
lent event with more exhibitors and
improved facilities, this is a great show
to meet manufacturers and see all the
latest models and spec’s etc.
‘ a great opportunity
for farmers to look at
the latest machinery
’
Three very popular events in the new
year which are traditionally great places
to secure those good deals with your
local dealer are Farmstar’s open day
on the 16th January at their Marr depot.
Ripon Farm Services on the 15th and 16th
January at the Yorkshire Showground
and on Wednesday 5th February the
very successful YAMS show at York
Auction Centre.
Look out for the ATV feature, starting
on page 52, for loads of facts, figures,
and information from different man-
ufacturers including Honda on their
new Fourtrax 420 and Foreman 500
ATV models, along with a special deal
on the Pioneer! Also, Yamaha, Polaris
and Can-Am – great reading if you are
looking at changing or buying an ATV.
I visited the grand opening of the
brand-new depot at Cubley which is the
largest investment to date the Russell
Group have made. A fantastic state
of the art, purpose-built site. Read all
about this on page 42 in our machinery
section.
I also met up with Steven Hirstle of
Northmoor farm and Hirstle Fabrications
in Kirkburton to talk about the business
but also his hugely successful ‘Tractor
Fest’ charity event which he ran for the
first time and will be back again next
year.
Chris Berry has been visiting a variety
of farms including Mark Stephenson of
Nunburnholme Wold and Londesborough
Wold farms talking to him about his mixed
farm and award winning Blue Texels. Still
with the sheep, he talks with Clive Mitchell
of Coldwell farm and his Champion
Derbyshire Gritstone.
Farm security is now becoming more
and more important, proper protection is
vital nowadays, Steven Dresser of Thirsk
are specialists, look them up on page 6.
Along with news, views and more
farms, there is much more in this issue.
Our next issue is in January, so The
Farmers Mart wish you all well for the
remainder of 2019 and a fantastic festive
period.
