USE A BIT
OF LOGIC
The name ‘Logic’ may be
familiar to many of you
as a supplier of quality
equipment for use in
farming, game-keeping,
forestry, municipal and
equestrian workplaces
and for well over forty
years has been building
on its reputation within
these industry sectors.
A Brief Company History
In the late 1960’s Northumbrian farmer
Willie Rutherford started making agricul-
tural equipment in his farm workshop. His
success quickly developed and he built the
‘Logic Tractor’ in 1971 which was featured on
the BBC’s ‘Tomorrows World’ programme
and which formed the name for the man-
ufacturing company. A small factory and
production team was established to make
tractor mounted farm equipment.
Logic Farm Equipment, as it was known
in those days and based in Hexham,
developed other well proven implements,
notably the Snatcher, a 56 Bale Transporter.
The Logic Yard Scraper is another product
that has stood the test of time, having been
made either in the Tyne Valley or under
royalty elsewhere to become one of the
Logic GDS150R ground driven Salt Spreader, towed
by an ATV fitted with a System 20 Snow Plough
country’s leading sellers. Transport boxes
and the Logic ‘Hitch-it System’ completed
the original list of equipment that provided
the springboard to many other successful
products.
ATVs Arrive
In the mid 1970’s ATV’s arrived from the
USA as recreational machines. The team
realised they had a place in farming with a
range of complimentary equipment. This is
when Logic ATV Equip was started and after
a suitable tow ball and trailer was designed
a huge choice of equipment began to
emerge
Low ground pressure became a very
serious issue at this time. As the ATV was
probably the ultimate in economical low
ground pressure machinery, it was only

natural that Logic developed equipment
that could be used in such circumstances
for spraying and spreading fertiliser, slug
pellets and herbicide granules. Spraying
with controlled droplet application were
used to achieve 100 plus acres per day
in short autumn working days. These
tasks resulted in a universal chassis called
System 40 being developed, which will
accommodate most apparatus for these
purposes.
System 20 is another chassis, developed
and designed for the front of ATVs and
more recently UTVs. This opens up a whole
range of possibilities to exploit the strength
and manoeuvrability of these small ma-
chines. The snow plough, power brush and
yard-scraper, are a few examples.
Logic’s grass care range includes flail
and rotary mowers, chain harrows, ballast
rollers, on-board sprayers with electrical
controls, sweeper/collectors and aerators.
Forest or woodland management is ca-
tered for by a range of Scandinavian tested
equipment which includes electric winch,
tyre chains and timber hauling trailers.
Winter Maintenance
Logic is now well known for its range of
salt spreaders and de-icing product spread-
ers and sprayers. A small ground driven
spreader that handles wet rock salt was
developed and the range now extends to
engine powered and trailed or de-mounta-
ble units for pick-ups or trailers with capaci-
ties from 130Kg – 750Kg.

In agriculture, for example, there has
been success with Contact 2000, the ‘world
class’ weed wiper that has transformed the
effectiveness of this application, with huge
cost savings and unparalleled results. In
particular, large areas of bracken and rush
have been controlled to improve the value
of grazing on marginal areas.
Sheep feeding too has been improved
with Multi-Feeder, the bulk dispenser that
permits hundreds of sheep to be fed in
very little time. This time saving alone is a
big factor along with reduced feed costs
and reduced stress in the flock.
Recent winter conditions have led to a
number of Salt Spreader sales to farms
and estates with a requirement to keep the
roads open, not just for milk collection, but
for eggs, pigs and grain too.
In Equestrian circles Logic equipment is
recognised as the leader for small qual-
ity products for paddock topping, poo
picking, spraying, arena grading, and much
more.
Logic products hallmark is the quality
of construction and components. They
represent good value for money as they
do what they are supposed to do, last a
long time and command a very good re-
sale value.
There are two bases to cover the UK
and export. Hexham in Northumberland
is the main manufacturing centre and
also services northern England, Scotland,
Ireland and export sales. Logic MH near
Cheltenham in Gloucestershire looks after
southern England and Wales.
Both centres supply products to a net-
work of over 500 dealers nationwide, who
arrange delivery and aftercare services.
Our dealers are the main point of contact
for all sales and service
