In the past 50 years we’ve never bought in another ewe producing our own Providence females all the way through.’ The Teeswaters were introduced at Mark’s behest in 2008 when he bought a gimmer lamb from David Newbould of Dallowgill near Ripon. Mark won the breed championship at the Great Yorkshire Show first time out and the seal was set on his dual championship winning pedigrees in both Teeswaters and Wensleydales. ‘Wherever you go there are lovely people and that’s what makes it for me’ ‘I love showing both breeds and particularly all the wonderful people it has brought me into contact with over the years. Winning or not winning doesn’t really bother me. If I win, I win – if I don’t, I don’t. It’s just the fantastic time and camaraderie around the ring and in the lines that is important. Ernie (Sherwin) has had a really great show season M and well done to him and young Laura (Beaton) is doing Y really well. I enjoy judging too. CM The Royal Norfolk Show is MY another I go to every year since CY the demise of the Royal Show. Wherever you go there are CMY lovely people and that’s what K makes it for me.’ Mark has always valued his social life, recognising the need to incorporate more than just the day-to-day farm life in his world. ‘Many people talk of the ability to be able to get away from the farm so that you can enjoy other things.
