Not being from Yorkshire, they had an additional barrier to overcome! But with moral support from neighbours plus Andrew’s infectious smile and bonhomie, they quickly won over the community. Sales went up to £300 a week. They used to prepare and pack everything on the kitchen table. At this time farmers markets were starting up which helped to grow their name. They were still using a local butcher to slaughter and prepare meats for them as they sold pork and beef as well as sausages. CHANGING BANKS FOR THE BETTER Already Andrew and Maria knew what they wanted to achieve and that was to have the biggest and best farm shop around. They approached their bank manager with their plans, who was enthusiastic and told them what they should do is to increase sales to £500 a week. They managed to achieve this but the bank kept moving the goalposts - £750 then twice more until at £1,500 Andrew flipped and kicked that particular bank into touch. By now, they had been able to employ a part-time butcher to help with the ever narrowing margins.
