He proudly wears a shirt and tie, uses a straw as a wrap-around microphone and proceeds to take bids from the family for his Brittains farm toys collection of cattle, sheep and pigs! He even has them all in lairage and has a main sale ring so watch out for this young man in years to come! Natasha was 17 when she moved north from Surrey. Her parents had a holiday home in North Yorkshire and they subsequently bought a house in Fearby. She met Mel when he used to come and cut their grass. It’s Natasha who tells of just how wonderful it is to live in the village. She works at Kell Bank primary school between Fearby and Healey. “I wouldn’t swap it for anything. It’s an idyllic little village that still has its own very popular pub, The Black Swan. Yes, housing is dear but the Swinton Estate still owns a lot of the properties and there are still quite a few families like ours who have been here for generations. There’s such a great community atmosphere and currently there are also a lot of young people. Everyone pulls together.” It is good to know that there are still communities like this in these challenging times.
