milker! Her swimming career
saw her compete at national
level in the 200m butterfly. She
milks goats for Ben Ryder near
Ripon.
Paul and Amanda were
already acquainted at just
three years old! But they
officially became ‘an item’
through Boroughbridge YFC
with Paul at one time being
chairman and Amanda the
secretary. They married in
1989. Today, Alice is chairman
and George is vice chairman of
the club. Paul was president of
the club until last year and is a
county vice president.

Gills were once again heavily
involved with Alice and
Amanda looking after the
entries for everything from
farm produce, handicrafts,
baking, to photography and
children’s sections; George
and Paul involved in setting
up the show; George and
Alice also have other existing
commitments to the Young
Farmers that include manning
a stand and running car
parking duties at the event.
Amanda has been on the show
committee for the past 27
years.
Paul told me just how grateful
the show committee is to the
RAF.
“The Ministry of Defence
has bent over backwards to
help us. Billy Turner’s was a
lovely venue but it was being
ploughed out so we had to find
somewhere else. The show
