out of the
village
Chris Berry visits
the Gills of Lowfield
Grange, who three
years ago, did just that.
When villages grow and
a farm no longer has
open fields all around it is
probably time to move out.
That is pretty much what
happened to the Gills of
Langthorpe who now live
just outside of the village in
their brand-new - and very
impressive - farmhouse at
Lowfield Grange.
Think agricultural

“We bit the bullet three
years ago,” Paul Gill told
me. “We put up a large beef
shed around 40 years ago
but we were not allowed to
have it next to the original
farmhouse, so we built it here
on a greenfield site. This is
now where we have moved
everything - including the other
farm buildings - so that they
