NBA WELCOMES NEW CHAIRMAN
At the 14th Annual General Meeting
of the National Beef Association the
current chairman, Hamish McBean
stood down on rotation rules. He
has been succeeded by David
Thomlinson.
David has worked at Harrison and
Hetherington for over 51 years, starting
as an off ice clerk and working his way
up. He now specialises in pedigree and
commercial sales of both sheep and
cattle. He also has a 200 acre farm
in Cumbria where he breeds pedigree
Limousin cattle.
A supporter of the National Beef
Association from its inception – his
membership number is seven - he has
always been a lover of the beef industry.
“I have always believed that the cattle
industry needs a strong independent
voice, and the National Beef Association
has never been afraid to tackle the difficult
issues facing the cattle industry.”
David thanked Hamish McBean for all
his hard work and said that his aim was
to “lead the National Beef Association
forward and maintain its position as the
number one independent voice for the
cattle industry. “Welcoming Beef Expo to
Hexham Auction Mart in May 2014 will
also be a highlight,” he added.
David, who has farmed at Scaleby
for almost half a century, is widely

recognised as one of the stalwarts of
Cumbria’s farming industry. In 2011 he
was presented with the prestigious 2011
Blamire Award which is presented to
people directly involved in agriculture in
the old county of Cumberland.
Michael Cowen, (left) Chairman of the
Blamire Trust and a Director of H&H
Group is pictured with David at the
presentation. A former Chairman of the
North West Limousin Cattle Breeders
Association, David has made a hugely
important contribution to the Limousin
Society where he has been instrumental
in the creation of Borderway being
recognised as The National Limousin
Centre.
The NBA Head Office is at Mart Centre,
Tyne Green, Hexham, NE46 3SG.
