The Farmers Mart Jun-Jul 2019 - Issue 63 | 页面 4

4 EDITOR’S INTRO JUN/JUL 2019 • farmers-mart.co.uk Welcome back to another issue of The Farmers Mart, the recent weather hasn’t been great, but it does look like we’re about to have some much-needed sun in July. Just in time for the various shows around the country including the Great Yorkshire Show. WE feature a large preview of the Great Yorkshire Show to whet your appetite and give you an insight of what to expect at this year’s show. The Red Shepherdess will be making an appearance in the fashion show. Many will recognise Hannah from her appearance in the BBC’s ‘Who Dares Wins’, where she proved she has great determination and grit. So, this year she’ll be swapping the hills and sheep for a turn on the catwalk. Last year Princess Anne attended the show, this year Prince Andrew will be in attendance. This year’s show will host the Longhorn Cattle Society’s National Competition for the first time and the motorbike stunt riding team, The Bolddog Lings, will entertain crowds in the main ring. Hopefully the traditionally impressive cattle parade on Thursday will be bathed in sunshine. Also, in this issue we take a look at some of the security issues faced by many in the farming community, especially in regard to ATVs which are regularly stolen from rural premises. Also featured in the section and on the back cover is the unique new security barrier from Triple Stop T with “Se- cured by Design” approval. We have a review of this year’s very successful NSA North Sheep show held at Frankland’s farm in Rathmell. Chris Berry has been busy recently visiting several farms, including Mark and Lisa Megginson of Cot Nab farm who have developed a special events business supplying weddings and festivals with ap- propriate toilet facilities, which complements their successful arable operation. Bishopton Vets are cur- rently celebrating 75 years in practice, serving the animals of the local community. The original practice was founded by Ronald Wood in 1944 and was located at Caxton Lodge in Ripon. Although much has changed in 75 years, the emphasis on proactive pre- ventative health planning and innovative thinking have been consistent themes at Bishop- ton. That’s all for now, do enjoy the latest issue of The Farmers Mart and the show season, we’ll see you in September. East Yorkshire poultry business makes musical donation in memory of a colleague The team at Middleton on the Wolds based Soanes Poultry have made the first donation from a trust fund that was set up in memory of a colleague. £500 was donated from the Helen Bettley Memorial Fund to the North Yorkshire Music Therapy Centre that uses interactive music making to help people whose lives have been affected by illness or disability. TECHNICAL Manager, Helen Bet- tley passed away following surgery last year and the fund was estab- lished by colleagues and directors of the business to raise money in Helen’s memory for charitable purposes. One of the fund’s trustees, Mel- anie Jackson, travelled to the Cen- tre’s office outside Malton to hand over the cheque. She said: “This is the first time we have chosen a recipient of a donation, and we have chosen the Therapy Centre because Helen lived in Malton and was also very interested in music as a pastime. “We feel that our donation would meet with Helen’s approval and supports a cause that would be important to her.” One of the recipients of the cheque was Laura Festa, Director of Music Therapy at the Centre: “Music therapy enables people of all ages and abilities to commu- nicate and express themselves through music, voice, instruments and music technology. It can help people to build confidence, develop social skills, improve Editor, Jason.
