Farmers encouraged
to find out about
woodland creation and
management at the
Confor Woodland Show
The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago…the
second best time is now. With timber prices at a 30-year-
high, now is also the time to manage your woodland.
WITH many concerned about the uncer-
tainty over future subsidies, farmers are
increasingly looking for ways to maximise
productivity of their land and diversify
incomes. Integrating forestry with farming
offers valuable opportunities to do that.
There are a number of attractive funding
opportunities in England under Country-
side Stewardship for woodland creation
or improvement, tree health support or to
prepare a woodland management plan.
Benefit from tax free
forestry income
Grants of up to £6800 per hectare tax
free to create new woodland are availa-
ble, with the possibility of carbon offset
income on top. There is a grant that will
pay all the costs of planning your new
woodland and getting the required ap-
provals, with no commitment to go ahead
with the planting if it does not suit you.
Given the long term uncertainty of farming
incomes, timber looks a good bet... and all
forestry income is tax free.
What to expect at the
Confor Woodland Show
If you want to know more, come to the
Confor Woodland Show, taking place at
Longleat Estate, Wiltshire, on 05/06 Sep-
tember 2019
Climate Change will be the overall
theme for this year’s show, and for the
first time, we especially invite the farming
community to come along and find out
more about how to make woodlands
work on their farms.
“The show has embraced the farming
sector and recognises that many farms
have small woodlands or even single trees
and that these can still make an important
contribution to farm budgets.”

Chatsworth Country Fair
Daredevil motorbike riders performing gravity defying stunts
and fierce Cossack warriors on horseback lead the action-
packed entertainment at the 2019 Chatsworth Country Fair.
EXTREME non-stop action is on the cards
from the UK’s leading motorcycle display
team, the Bolddog Lings, appearing at Chat-
sworth Country Fair for the very first time.
Not only have the team appeared in some
of the largest shows in the world, but they
have even featured in the superhero film
Captain America.
Their performance will see the best of
British freestyle riding talent performing
death defying tricks using the world’s larg-
est landing ramp. The riders also go head to
head in a true test of nerve to see who will
throw down the biggest tricks to win over
the crowd.
‘ a true test of nerve ’
The Ukrainian Cossacks Stunt Team are true
masters of speed and agility, somersaulting
and spinning under their horses’ bellies whilst
spurring each other on with shouts and yelps.
First formed in 1990 to resurrect the traditions
of horse drill and mounted exercise, the
hardy Cossack warriors have achieved world-
wide acclaim for their spectacular daredevil
show and return to Chatsworth after thrilling
the crowds in 2015.
