William Sykes & Son
Paul rents 28 acres where
he has a small flock of Ryland
breeding ewes. He’s had
Ryland and White Faced
Woodlands, has shown them
both and won and has been
President of both sheep
societies. He’s still active in
Holmfirth Mart organising the
vendors and enthusing the
buyers to come each week.
“I’ve always said that I see
myself as the farmer’s and
the butcher’s friend. Everyone
needs to work together and
at Holmfirth that certainly
happens.”
William Sykes & Son
today has a team of 13 with
several Dixon family members
involved - including Paul’s
son, Robert who heads up
the estate agency side of
the business; Judith, Paul’s
wife of 41 years; and Robert’s
wife, Louise who are all main
players in the team. Judith
and Paul have three other
sons – Richard, Thomas
and Matthew. Matthew runs
his own haulage business,
auctioneers and helps Paul
with his Ryland sheep.
Paul is organising a very
special evening at Yummy
Yummy Ice Cream Parlour’s
premises at Delph House Farm,
Denby Dale on Wednesday
7 September from 7.30pm ‘til
late.
“This is an open invitation
to anyone who has ever
worked with me or has come
to the livestock markets in
Huddersfield, Penistone and
Holmfirth. I’d love to see
everybody. We’re going to
be putting on entertainment
and we will be fundraising for
RABI.”
