BWMB - Strong Auction
sales bodes well for
producer returns
As the shearing season gets underway the British Wool
Marketing Board (BWMB) says strong auction sales
throughout the previous selling season bodes well
for producer returns in the coming twelve months.
Board Chairman and
Northumberland farmer
Malcolm Corbett said
“proactive management
of the Board’s auction
sales has ensured a strong
demand in the past six
months and we enter the
2014 selling season with no
carry over at all.”
“The effect of this strong
market is the average price of
wool achieved by your Board is
significantly higher than last year
(up 34%).”
“Demand has been high
and no matter what the type
of wool, it is well sought after
- a tightening global supply
is driving demand from all
sectors.”
The average 2014 guide wool
clip value for Mule wool, for
example, being £1.25/kg and
Blackface £1.05/kg which will
be welcome news for everyone
with wool to market this year, he
added.
Mr Corbett says the demand
for all wools sold through the
Board’s auctions is the result of
a number of factors, not least
the good work being done
through the Campaign for Wool
(CfW) to promote wool across
the UK and the rest of the
world.
“The CfW has been an
unparalleled success for the
British and worldwide wool
industry and has helped
increase demand for all wool
types for all manner of uses.
Wool is once again being seen
