Focus on maternal

With the Salers breed
gaining additional ground
in the UK beef industry and
increasingly being sought
out by suckler farmers
wanting a simplified beef
system, the Salers Cattle
Society recently launched
a revised branding in line
with a new website and
imagery.
The new website - www.
salers-cattle-society.co.uk brings together a wealth of
key breed information for both
pedigree and commercial
producers looking to maximise
the benefits of the breed in their
herds.

Society breed secretary,
Liz Wilde said the increasing
popularity of the breed which
is rapidly becoming recognised
as ‘The Ultimate Suckler Breed,’
had seen high demand for both
bulls and females at recent
sales.
“There is no doubt that
commercial suckler farmers
are coming to the breed for its
known ease of management
traits, including easy calving,
high fertility and longevity,” said
Liz.
“Salers cows and Salers
cross cows are superb mothers
with a strong maternal instinct
and great milking ability. The
breed is also a great forager
with the ability to produce

milk from even poor areas of
grassland, ensuring good calf
