or milk and everything is run off an honesty box . All there is at the roadside is a shed-like structure and the fridges . And it has worked ! Their raw milk is available all week – and the milkshake range is available at weekends , and regularly sells out !
The amount they are selling is still only a drop in the ocean compared to the milk produced by their 220 milkers with their milk going to Payne ’ s Dairies but it has become a hit and Sam , having looked into raw milk and its benefits more closely , says that they are now wholly committed to it .
“ When we did the trial people instantly liked it . Because the A18 is quite a busy road for commercial vehicles during the week we thought our trade was going to be more van and lorry drivers doing a quick pick up of what they needed for their brew or at home . That ’ s another reason why we just made it easy for them to pick bottles out of a fridge . That way they might pick up two , three of four at a time and come with their kids on a weekend .
“ We believe in raw milk because that ’ s what we drink and now we are passionate about it and its health benefits . It has helped with lactose intolerance , skin condition , stomach condition , diabetes . We even had someone who said it helped with their hay fever , I don ’ t know how .
“ We bottle it all ourselves , make our own labels , we made our own logo . We now sell 300 litres of milk , sold in 2-litre bottles and 100 litres of milkshakes in half-litres every week .
“ It ’ s gone better than we expected , particularly on the milkshakes . We have four flavours that are constant – chocolate , strawberry , banana and white chocolate – and we do specials to mark major events such as the Queen ’ s Jubilee .
“ We have thoughts about perhaps adding a tearoom in the future , which we might start dipping our toe in the water by adding a coffee machine in the short term .
