Areas where there is a lot of contact with chemicals such as milking parlours , storage tanks & food areas require a chemical and water-resistant paint such as a Chlorinated Rubber . Commonly used as swimming pool paints ; light fast and durable , chlorinated rubber is ideal in milk parlours and chemical tanks making a good lining coating to protect the surface from water penetration and chemical attack .

As with the general Automotive Industry , Plant and Machinery requires an oil and chemical resistant coating that ’ s lightfast and the right colour . Modern equipment is often coated in two pack paint systems or sophisticated modified acrylics as original equipment . Ancillaries are sometimes treated the same but

often coated with plant and machinery enamels which dry by solvent evaporation ; Such products are easy to use . They are heat and chemical resistant , often containing either an element of polyurethane or chlorinated rubber to enhance their performance ; called Coach Enamels they can be sprayed or carefully brushed and are used in the refurbishment of classic or antique tractors . High gloss , high flow , heat resistance , and strong colours are amongst plant enamel paints characteristics . Historic tractor colours used by enthusiasts and restorers fall into this category . One important factor to consider is the curing time ; Whilst

an enamel paint will “ dry ” within a few hours , depending on conditions , the full hardness and durability will not be achieved for a few days so avoid spilling petrol or diesel on the coating the day after you ’ ve painted it . The coating may be damaged if it hasn ’ t fully cured .

Coatings are for protection and decoration ; select the correct colour and you can hide a building in the landscape . However , its protection from attack by the elements that is most important ; If you install a new grain dryer and don ’ t protect it , it won ’ t be long before that investment is rusting away . So it came pre-painted ? Fine just make sure you

have re-coated any areas of the coating damaged during installation ; small exposed and unprotected areas on surfaces , which are protected , overall tend to corrode very fast ! One solution is the use of products known traditionally as “ Farm Oxide ” Paints . These products may or may not contain anticorrosive chemicals but primarily work by putting a barrier between the surface and the “ elements ” They are economic , easy to use , and a straightforward solution . Perfect for buildings , roofs , tanks , pipes and other installations .

What about the floor ? If you need to keep the floor protected and clean then Floor paints can be the answer . Available in a range of colours , floor paint both seals and decorates leaving the surface less prone to water penetration and staining . There are economic systems and more expensive but harder wearing “ Two pack ” chemically curing coatings where heavy traffic is experienced ; keep the floor clean .
