Yorkshire Federation in 2017-18 . ‘ I suppose you could say I was a late developer ,’ says John . ‘ Young Farmers has completely changed me as a person . I know my dad benefitted from the public speaking training he received through the YFC movement and I have too . Never in a million years would I have thought about getting up and speaking at meetings until I had learned through YFC public speaking training and competitions .’
John is determined that the organisation remains an integral part of the countryside and young peoples ’ development as well as social involvement .
‘ I believe it is vitally important in rural communities . Once Covid-19 restrictions are lifted it may take some time to get back to where it was , but it certainly has a role to play for young peoples ’ wellbeing , friendships and network .’
John also runs the committee that organises the YFC Great Yorkshire Show stand that is shared between Yorkshire and the East Riding Federations .
What next for John ? Well , his cricket will continue , as will his farming and his support of the YFC movement , but he ’ s also now joined the NFU .
‘ I ’ ve become a member of my local branch at Bedale . I ’ ve also attended the national conference in Birmingham twice , which is amazing . Would I take up office ? I find I have an inability to say no !’
