YAMS 2020 – THE HOTTEST YET!
The YAMS show at York Auction Centre really heralds
the start of the agricultural show year in the north.
This year the 5th of February was probably one of
the warmest, after a chilly misty start you could really
feel some heat in the sun when it shone, and it was
there right into the mid-afternoon. I think it is fair to
say that it was an extremely successful day and there
is no doubt that the weather played its part as the
glorious sunshine made the show much easier and
pleasant to go round as well as making life easy for
Richard Tasker and his team to manage the day. The
sun also puts a smile on people’s faces. Thank goodness
Storm Ciara did not come over a few days earlier!
WHEREAS everybody likes a dry day and
a spot of sun, this could have kept Farmers
away from the show, but no not a bit of
it, more car parking spaces were filled
than last year which certainly suggests
the attendance was as big and probably
better than 2019. Throughout the day there
was a steady flow of people walking the
avenues. Many of the stands looked to have
people constantly on them. This year the
inside stands were a lot busier, at times it
was difficult to walk down the aisles. Traffic
management was excellent from the large
parking area in adjacent fields, park and
ride and good traffic management both on
the way in but particularly on exit which
was very smooth.
One thing that Farmers expect when
they are out and about is good simple
food. The auction centre café has a very
good name, catering at YAMS certainly
fulfilled the bill and a lot of hungry
farmers from various vending vans from
the new Roaming Rumpus burger and
