• FEB/MAR 2020 ‘ There is a vast student community in Leeds, many of these always looking for food alternatives ’ media as it grew in popularity. Because the stall-holders had been sourced from other successful markets and the focus was on quality, very soon word-of-mouth did the rest, encouraging more and more people to give it a try. Now there are more than 20 stalls. They realised fairly early on, that if the market was to have universal appeal, then they had to make it an experience and not just a collection of market stalls. It also had to be family friendly. So they started to have regular music events and kids games – all free. There is a vast student community in Leeds, many of these always looking for food alternatives, and as the focus was turning toward fresh food, local food and food direct from the farm being better which is why all the farmers’ markets started - or should I say started again, as 100 years ago you could only buy fresh and shop for the day or the week, there were no supermarkets or frozen food.
