Keith’s father Cyril was an amazing man
who was a special constable, prepared his
own sermons although never ordained as
a lay preacher, ran a 5-piece dance band
that played village halls for 20 years, played
football, cricket and had racing pigeons.
Keith followed suit and his footballing prow-
ess led to playing for York City Reserves and
East Riding County FA as well as Sledmere
FC where he was secretary 20 years. He
had a strong left foot and played left wing,
left back and centre half during his football-
ing career. He also played cricket for Sled-
mere, Pocklington and Driffield as left-hand
opening bat and left arm swing bowler.
He later became a bowls player and was
church warden for 24 years. Keith’s wife
Gwynneth is an in-demand church organist
at Sledmere and Garton on the Wolds. Keith
was also a member of the Driffield Male
Voice Choir and has sung five times at the
Royal Albert Hall as one of the 1000 York-
shire Voices.
Nick was Sledmere FC’s captain and centre
half like his dad, was also opening left hand
bat for Sledmere cricket team and is currently
one of the darts team at The Triton Inn where
wife Jo also works. Nick and Jo have four chil-
dren between them from previous marriages.
Nick’s sons are Ben who works with pigs and
Simon who is working on an apprenticeship
at home with Keith and Nick; Jo’s two children
are Luke, who is on an apprenticeship at Sled-
mere Estate and Elise who is still at school. Jo
is originally from Nafferton where her father
had The Star Inn.
Keith and Gwynneth also have a daughter
Joanne who married a farmer and lives at
Slingsby. Keith and Gwynneth were both
members of Sledmere YFC and Gwynneth
was also a member of the Driffield School
YFC. Nick was involved with Bainton YFC.
