My advice to anyone looking for preservative treated timbers around the farm would be to find a supplier you can trust by asking key questions. What timber species are they using? Are they drying the timbers correctly prior to treat- ment? Are they using a premium wood preservative that will do the job? Are they achieving the treatment requirements to meet a long term, ground contact perfor- mance? “Ask your supplier to demonstrate the treatment practices they use and show you the results within the treated timbers themselves. A section through a treated agricultural stake will highlight the preserv- ative penetration they are achieving.” Some suppliers of preservative treated timbers offer performance assurances against rot. These may well be worth the small extra investment to achieve a longer term investment return. www.tanalisedtimber.co.uk TM TIMBER www.tanalisedtimber.co.uk Use wood preservatives safely.
