36 FARMSTAR FEB/MAR 2018 • farmers-mart.co.uk Historic Agricultural Artefacts Restored To Former Glory BECK Isle Museum of Rural Life in Pickering, North Yorkshire has carried out an extensive restoration project on their historic agricultural implements with fantastic results. Key pieces at “the hands on” Yorkshire based museum had be- gan to rapidly deteriorate. If nothing was done these historic artefacts were in danger of being lost forever. And so the museum started a resto- ration project using Teamac paints. The museum’s collection is not restricted to a particular period of interest but instead aims to reflect and trace local life and customs as well as social and domestic developments during the last 200 years. The museum building itself was built to be home to England’s first Agricultural College in 1818 as designed by the vision of William Marshall, the local agricultural writer and reformist from the 1800’s, who dedicated his life to the study of agriculture. Volunteers from the museum prepared, primed and coated horse drawn and early tractor machinery as part of the resto- ration project for the museum’s venture. Breathing new life into the historic artefacts has enabled thousands more visitors to enjoy them for many years to come. The volunteers saw the results they were getting with the Tea- mac paints and suggested that Rodge Dowson, Chairman of the Beck Isle Museum Management Team, contact Teamac to assist in the sponsorship of the project. Geoff Mackrill, MD at Teamac comments: “We were delighted to help sponsor this worthy endeavour. Our specialist paints were perfect for this project and we are very happy to be involved.” Now restored with Teamac agricultural coatings such as Metalcote Enamel, Farm Oxide Protective Paint and Floor Paint are machinery, tractors and dis- play areas. Mr Dowson hopes to do more with vintage agricultural heritage and the local community in raising awareness of this local heritage in time for the opening of the museum at the earlier time than usual, of February 2010. Rodge Dowson comments: “We aim to secure and pre- serve as much local and agricul- tural heritage as we are able to for future generations. We need- ed a paint to help achieve this. We heard of Teamac and chose them because of their excellent reputation. We are very pleased with the results. Without doing this some unique items would have deteriorated beyond repair which would have been a very sad historical loss.” Relevant websites: www.teamacargricultral.co.uk www.teamac.co.uk www.beckislemuseum.co.uk Agricultural Coatings with Experience Chlorvar Chlorinated Rubber Stable Paint • • A water based, fast drying sealer coat.
