Do we upgrade, Make do or buy new?
When January comes Farmers thoughts amongst many turn to the dilemma of machinery ‘Do we
upgrade, Make do or buy new’? Many farmers research cogitate and endlessly investigate before
making that all important purchase. January is a key month when final decisions are made or come
that bit closer. In the North everyone is that bit cannier and many dealers endeavour to be the early
bird and get in quick with their Open Days before the big shows Like LAMMA to nail those early deals.
THERE are few as canny and
hardworking as Andrew Wadding-
ton of the FARMSTAR group based
in Marr just outside Doncaster.
Andrew and his team always host a
very busy open day in the second
week of Jan. This year was no ex-
ception with a bonus of no snow or
driving rain just gently overcast.
The yard is always well set out
with a wide array of machinery
and strong representation of his
key manufacturers. Inside in the
warm an extra marquee houses
more suppliers keen to show
their wares and the all-important
converted workshop which for a
day becomes a complimentary
café and farmers forum. Come
Lunchtime this year as ever the
traditional queue formed for soup,
porkpie, biscuits, sandwiches, tea
and coffee etc all prepared by the
FARMSTAR staff. Let’s face it Farm-
ers function better on a full belly.
‘ Andrew was
pleased to report
that after a slightly
slow start to 2018
following the open
day things have
really taken off
’
There is always a noticeable
buzz and frenetic chatter. Andrew
who has now been at the helm
of this thriving dealership for 12
years now was his usual busy self
constantly talking to customers,
so much so that I was unable to
catch him on the day and re-
turned afterwards for a chat and
take some new team photo’s.
I asked how the day went and
Andrew was pleased to report
that after a slightly slow start
to 2018 following the open day
things have really taken off which
bodes well for another good
year.
