OF AGRICULTURAL ELECTRICAL INSTALLATIONS
DRESSERS are main distributors
and installers of both ZIEHL-ABEGG
fans and FARM X ventilation
controls, the two typically being
installed together in Pig, Poultry
and Livestock buildings. ZIEHL –
ABEGG Fans and FARM X ventila-
tion systems represent some of
the best and most cost effective in
the market place.
In agricultural operations and
greenhouses, or systems for the
storage and drying of agricultur-
al products, the top priority is
hygiene and sterility. In livestock
‘ the fans can be
used for almost
any agriculutral

requirements

farming, controlled climate man-
agement is the key factor for the
health, productivity and free-
dom from stress of the animals.
Fans and control engineering
products from ZIEHL-ABEGG and
FARMX ensure this through their
significantly reduced levels of
noise disturbance. Thanks to
their robust and stable design,
the fans can be used for almost
any agricultural climate control
requirements.

LED LIGHTING –
SAVING YOU MONEY
SINCE the reduction in feed-in
tariffs, many farmers are still una-
ware of the significant cost savings
in replacing existing lights with
LED fittings.
Studies have shown that in the
dairy sector, for example, LED
replacement lighting replicating
daylight can maximise the comfort
of livestock and can result in an in-
crease in milk yield of up to 7-10%.
Quality light is an essential factor
when considering both the
welfare and profitability
of your herd.
Switching to LED
lighting is the most
efficient way to
achieve energy
savings of between
50% and 80%. A recent
example in which signif-
icant savings were achieved:
a cattle shed 120m x 22m with
annual electricity costs with
traditional lighting totalled £13,876
but with the same quantity of LED
lights the annual costs were just
£4,730. Savings totalled £9,146 and
with LED lights having a lifetime of
more than 10 years and requiring
no maintenance, the payback
time for this building was only 1.1
Intruder Alarms
& CCTV play an
important role in
Farm Security
CCTV is now proving to be a strong deterrent
to criminals but unfortunately many farms
don’t yet have it installed. Ramping up
security to protect rural homes, machinery,
livestock and farm equipment has never
been more important. The theft of all
these continues to be a major problem.
CCTV can provide vital
years, after which
the energy saving is
seen as profit for the
business.
Another benefit of LED lighting
is the ability to dim the lights, pro-
viding dawn and dusk periods.
Pigs need the right light levels
so that they can identify each
other, communicate and see pen
features such as feeders. There
is good evidence that pigs’ eyes
are not adapted for extremely
bright light and that they may be
better suited to dim levels of nat-
ural light. LED lighting provides
not only the opportunity for
significant cost saving but also to
be able to control the pig’s envi-
ronment and ease of wellbeing
which all leads to healthier less
stressed pigs.

evidence and assistance
for both apprehending
criminals and more
importantly the return
of stolen livestock and
machinery.
However to ensure
Farm CCTV is fully ef-
fective it needs to be
linked to a monitored
alarm system. These
systems typically include exter-
nal perimeter beams, high resolu-
tion cameras, remote monitoring
and instant intruder notification to
third parties, fully compatible with
mobile apps.
Mobile Apps are not only free
but give fantastic clarity for 24/7
monitoring purposes, the ability
to take and email instant images,
allow speedy response
when alerted and act as a deter-
rent. They can also be used for
close monitoring of livestock at
key times.
