Richard and Howard are very
hard workers but they also have
a very good team around them
which is so vitally important.
As Richard said: “We can leave
things in their hands, if need
be”.
Philip Denton is their cowman,
James Gill their shepherd and
Robert Hague their tractor and
machinery expert.
“What these three don’t know
you could write on a postage
stamp!” Richard told me. Having
a talented trio they can trust
means Richard and Howard
can take the odd break and
Richard does like to get a bit of
shooting in when he can.
The guys are justifiably proud
of what they and their team
have achieved and between
them they have created a strong
future for the farm. Richard is well
known in farming circles: such
is the respect he commands
that in June 2014 he received
a letter from
the renowned
Bakewell
Auctions
inviting him
to become one
of their Fatstock
judges – praise indeed.
I asked them what they
particularly enjoyed about
farming. Richard said he has
a natural love of animals and
prides himself on ensuring that
they have the very best of lives
on the farm. Howard echoed
this and added that he is very
happy to have
played his
part in helping
Richard
develop
personally, as
well as enhancing
the family business.
There are some exciting
plans in the pipeline including
the rearing and selling of their
own beef in addition to the
lambs. Given their record to
date, we can see it will not be
long before we are reporting
on that success.
