LAUNCH OF MEADOW MEATS
It was then that Richard
took a bold step forward and
Meadow Meats was launched
to supply the Butchery, Hotel
and catering trade. The timing
was good because this was at
the start of the rise in popularity
of locally farm reared meat
and the eventual emergence
of farm shops many of which
they supply now. Richard and
Howard were helped and
advised by a family friend
who was also an experienced
butcher. They both undertook
butchery courses specialising
in lamb, though Richard is also
fully qualified for beef as well.
Richard told me: “It all
seemed pretty foreign at the
start but once you’ve got
it, it is fine”. They are now
doing upwards of 40 lambs a
week supplying farm shops,
restaurants and caterers with
all cuts including the now
increasingly popular ‘Lamb
